The Title Math

There are no sprints left in 2026, so each race is worth up to 25 points per driver. That leaves 125 points across Mexico City, São Paulo, Las Vegas, Qatar and Abu Dhabi.

Austin did not settle it: Antonelli won, but Russell finished eighth and Hamilton fourth. Read the US Grand Prix results. Only Russell (up to 367 points) and Hamilton (up to 366) can still pass Antonelli’s 365. Verstappen, Leclerc and Norris can no longer catch him, and Piastri is out. After Mexico City on November 1, 100 points will remain, so a top-eight finish there is enough for Antonelli whatever Russell and Hamilton do.

If the title is not settled in Mexico City, the fight continues through November. Our guide to where Antonelli could clinch the title breaks down each race.

The Fight for Second

Russell, Hamilton, Verstappen, Leclerc and Norris are separated by 31 points. Russell leads Hamilton by one point after Austin, where Leclerc finished second, Verstappen third and Hamilton fourth. The full story is in our US Grand Prix results report.

The Constructors’ Fight

McLaren and Red Bull are level on 355 points for third. A team can score up to 43 points per race with a one-two, so 215 points are still available. Mercedes need to keep both cars scoring to close out the title.

What Comes Next

The next race is the Mexico City Grand Prix on Sunday, November 1, at 3 p.m. ET, 2 p.m. CT and 12 p.m. PT. See our Mexico City guide for the weekend, and the F1 schedule 2026 for every remaining race in US time.

How to read the table

Position is decided by total points. The gap column is the difference to the leader, not to the car in front, which is why the numbers do not always shrink by the same amount in each row.

Every race pays the same 25 points to the winner, so the gaps move in predictable steps. We rebuild both tables after every round from the official classification. If you follow more than one series, our MotoGP standings after Indonesia work the same way.

What a 123-point lead is worth in race wins

Twenty-five points is the maximum any driver can take from a race weekend now that the sprints are done. A 123-point lead is therefore almost five race wins, which is why a single bad Sunday does not change the shape of the title fight.

It also sets the clinching arithmetic. A driver needs a margin larger than the points still available, and there are 125 left. The full breakdown is in our title scenario guide.

Why the constructors’ table matters more to the teams

Fans follow the drivers’ championship. Teams are paid on the constructors’ table. Prize money and travel benefits are allocated by finishing position in that championship, and a single place is worth millions over a season.

That is also why teams care about both cars scoring. The drivers’ championship only needs one fast car. The constructors’ championship counts every point from both garages, and a second car that keeps retiring cannot be made up for by the first one.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who leads the F1 standings in 2026?

Kimi Antonelli of Mercedes leads with 365 points, 123 ahead of teammate George Russell, after the United States Grand Prix.

Which team leads the constructors’ championship?

Mercedes lead with 607 points, 133 ahead of Ferrari.

When can Antonelli clinch the title?

His next chance is the Mexico City Grand Prix on November 1: a top-eight finish there is enough whatever Russell and Hamilton do. Otherwise, the title could be settled later in November.

How are F1 standings calculated?

Every classified finish scores points, from 25 for a win down to 1 for tenth. The drivers’ championship totals those points, and the constructors’ championship totals both cars at each team.

Why do teams care about the constructors’ championship?

Prize money and benefits are allocated by constructors’ position, so a single place in that table is worth millions across a season.
