Cadillac F1 Team Guide: Drivers, Base and Engine Plan

Cadillac is the newest team on the Formula 1 grid and the second American-registered team after Haas. It entered the championship in 2026 as the 11th team, backed by General Motors and TWG Motorsports. This guide covers who runs it, who drives for it, where it is based and what its engine plan is.

Who owns and runs Cadillac F1
The team is backed by General Motors and TWG Motorsports. TWG Motorsports CEO Dan Towriss has spoken publicly about the project. Graeme Lowdon is Team Principal, Nick Chester is Chief Technical Officer and Pat Symonds works as Executive Engineering Consultant.
Formula 1 gave the entry its final approval to join as the 11th team in 2026. That took the grid to 22 cars, which is why qualifying now cuts six cars in Q1 and Q2. Our F1 qualifying guide explains the format.
Cadillac F1 drivers
Sergio Pérez and Valtteri Bottas drive the two cars. Both signed multi-year deals, and both are contracted through 2027. American driver Colton Herta was named the team’s test driver. Team leadership has said it wants to build a pathway for an American driver into Formula 1.

Both race drivers arrived with long careers behind them. Pérez raced for Red Bull and Bottas for Mercedes, and each has won Grands Prix. A new team often leans on drivers who can give clear technical feedback, and that is the logic behind this pairing. For the wider driver picture, see our F1 2027 driver lineup.

Where the team is based
Cadillac is headquartered in Fishers, a suburb of Indianapolis, Indiana. It also has a base next to Silverstone in the United Kingdom. A power unit facility is being built near General Motors’ technical center in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The split reflects how modern F1 teams work. Most of the sport’s engineering talent sits in the United Kingdom, so a UK base gives Cadillac access to it. The Indiana headquarters and the North Carolina facility tie the project to the American side of General Motors.
Cadillac’s engine plan
Ferrari supplies the power units and gearboxes for now. Cadillac plans to become a full works team that builds its own chassis and power unit. The team is targeting its own engine for 2029. The 2026 regulations changed the engines and the cars, which is part of why new manufacturers joined. Read our 2026 car rules guide for the details.
A works team is one that designs and builds the key parts of its car itself, instead of buying them. It takes longer and costs more, and it gives the team control over how the engine and chassis work together. Cadillac is using a customer supplier first and building toward that model.

What to expect
Team leadership has taken a measured approach. Lowdon has said the first priority is earning respect from rivals by executing well. Bottas has said he believes the team can go a long way and expects it to stay in F1 for the long term. A new team usually needs several seasons to move up the order, so results in the first years are a poor guide to the project.
What Cadillac has to prove
Joining a 22-car grid in the first year of new engine and car rules is a hard entry point. Every team is learning the 2026 regulations at the same time, which helps a newcomer a little, because nobody has a long head start with these cars. It also means Cadillac is competing against established factories that already know how to build and run an F1 car.
The team’s own statements point to a patient plan. Execute well, earn respect, then build toward a works operation with its own engine in 2029. The first benchmark is reliability and clean race weekends. Position in the standings comes after that.
Cadillac and Haas: two American teams
Haas has raced in F1 for several years and is the longer-standing American-registered team. Cadillac joins it as the second. For US fans, that means more American names in the paddock and a stronger case for American drivers to get chances. Cadillac’s stated plan to create a pathway for an American driver is the most direct sign of that.
The team also planned to reveal its livery during the Super Bowl on February 8, 2026, a sign of how directly it is aiming at the US market.
Where to see Cadillac in the US
